The Bismarck Police Department announced on May 5 that officers are investigating a threat made against Bismarck High School after a voicemail was left on the school’s answering service early in the morning.

According to police, the message was received around 4:30 a.m. and stated an intent to come to the school with violence and detonate multiple explosives inside the building. The call was traced to a Google Voice Over Internet Protocol number, leading investigators to believe it may be a swatting incident.

Police said that, out of caution, the Bomb Squad recommended a full evacuation of Bismarck High School. Personnel and canines are currently clearing the building to ensure there are no explosive devices present. Additional information will be released as the investigation continues.

The Diocese of Bismarck offered pastoral support across western North Dakota and included facilities such as the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and Center for Pastoral Ministry, according to the official website. The diocese spans more than 34,000 square miles with over 61,000 Catholics among nearly 281,000 residents in its territory. Most Rev. David D. Kagan has served as bishop since his appointment in 2011.

The Diocese operates as part of the Roman Catholic Church under direction from Rome and provides pastoral care throughout its region, according to its official website.
