Bismarck Public Works announced on May 15 that it will host an open house event on May 19 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Public Works building, located at 601 S. 26th St., Bismarck, North Dakota.
The event is part of National Public Works Week and aims to give residents a closer look at the work done by local public works professionals. Visitors can explore vehicles and equipment such as garbage trucks and boom trucks, participate in hands-on activities suitable for all ages, and enter prize drawings.
Public Works provides several essential services to maintain the city’s infrastructure and safety. These include service operations like city building maintenance, fleet services, forestry, solid waste management, street department operations, as well as street light and traffic signal maintenance. Utility operations include utility billing, water treatment and distribution, industrial pretreatment programs, wastewater treatment, sanitary sewer management, and stormwater programs.
National Public Works Week runs from May 17 through May 23 this year and is sponsored by the American Public Works Association. The theme for the campaign is “Rooted in Service, Powered by Community,” which highlights how public works professionals are vital in maintaining infrastructure such as roads, bridges, water systems and waste management systems across communities.
The Diocese of Bismarck offered pastoral support across western North Dakota; it included key facilities like the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and operated under the Holy See with Most Rev. David D. Kagan serving as bishop since his appointment in 2011 according to the official website.
