University of North Dakota head hockey coach Dane Jackson announced on Apr. 29 that Brasen Boser, a Minot, North Dakota native and former Arizona State defenseman, has signed an agreement to join the UND hockey program. Boser will have two years of eligibility remaining with the team.
The addition is seen as important for the Fighting Hawks’ defensive lineup. “We are excited to add a reliable, two-way defender like Brasen to our roster,” Jackson said. “His abilities to efficiently move a puck as well as be a strong penalty killer were the things that we felt addressed a need for us.”
Boser played his first two collegiate seasons at Arizona State University, where he became known as a dependable shutdown defender. Over 67 games, he recorded two goals and five assists in each season and finished with a plus-3 rating overall.
Defensively, Boser blocked 136 shots during his time at Arizona State, including leading his team with 76 blocks in the most recent season while averaging over 22 minutes of ice time per game. His blocking performance ranked second in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) and led all players in blocks per game.
Boser previously played junior hockey in North Dakota and won the United States Hockey League Clark Cup with Fargo alongside current Fighting Hawk Mac Swanson. He will also become the first player from Minot on UND’s roster since Quinn Fylling last appeared between 2000-01 and 2002-05.
Boser is expected to be introduced to local media at a later date.
