North Dakota residents affected by the June 20 storm have more time to apply for replacement Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service has approved a disaster waiver requested by North Dakota Health and Human Services, extending the deadline to July 21, 2025.
Households in Barnes, Burleigh, Cass, Foster, Grant, Griggs, Kidder, Logan, Morton, Ransom, Sioux, Steele, Stutsman and Traill counties can request replacement benefits without further verification due to verified power outages. SNAP households in other counties must verify a power outage of four hours or more to be eligible for replacement benefits.
Affected households can submit a completed Request for Replacement Due to Loss of SNAP Benefits form within 10 days of reporting a loss through the Self-Service Portal or by email at applyforhelp@nd.gov. They can also contact the Customer Support Center via phone or mail.
The program will replace losses up to the monthly benefit amount. For example, if a household reports a $250 food loss and received $300 in SNAP benefits for the month, $250 will be issued once verified. The maximum replacement cannot exceed one month’s SNAP benefit amount.
