The U.S. Department of Defense has announced the awarding of contracts to two companies for projects at Grand Forks Air Force Base in North Dakota. These contracts are intended to enhance living conditions for airmen and advance the Space Development Agency’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.

Gideon Contracting, LLC received a contract valued at $14,167,979 for renovations to Bunch Hall Dorm 221. The scope of work includes providing all necessary labor, tools, materials, equipment, supervision, and personnel required for a comprehensive dormitory renovation. This project is scheduled to be completed by March 11, 2026. The contracting activity is being managed by the 319th Contracting Squadron at Grand Forks Air Force Base.

In addition, General Dynamics Mission Systems was awarded a $9,956,096 modification to an existing contract. This funding will support ground management, integration, operation, and sustainment efforts related to the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture. Work under this contract will take place in Grand Forks as well as Scottsdale, Arizona and Huntsville, Alabama. The project is expected to conclude by September 30, 2029. The Space Development Agency oversees this contracting activity.

U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND), who serves on the Senate Armed Services Committee remarked on these developments: “Well, you’ve heard me many times say that the United States has to develop space assets at the speed of China, and that clearly takes some major investments,” he said. “The contract to General Dynamics Mission Systems certainly acknowledges that reality and highlights the importance of North Dakota in that effort. The state is also home to some really important Air Force assets, and the contract with Gideon Contracting signals what is a critical investment in upgrading housing for our airmen at Grand Forks.”
