The North Dakota Department of Agriculture announced on Mar. 24 that dicamba over-the-top products for soybeans have been registered in the state and are available to producers, but only certified pesticide applicators may use them.

The requirement for certification and additional online training is intended to ensure that these restricted-use products are applied properly and remain available in the future. The department supports agriculture across the state by promoting safe practices and compliance, according to the official website.

“All applicators must be certified and take the additional online training,” said Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring. “The training will benefit applicators by teaching them the techniques to use the technology properly so that these products will be available for future use.”

Training sessions meet state requirements, and attendees receive a certificate of completion. Applicators need only attend one registrant training session to apply any of the approved products, which include Engenia by BASF and Stryax by Bayer. BASF Engenia training information is available at https://www.engeniaherbicide.com/training.html, while Bayer Stryax training can be found at https://bayerstewardshiptraining.com/.

The North Dakota Department of Agriculture operates throughout the state as a government department focusing on agriculture, animal health, food safety, seed regulation, and other services according to its official website. The department aims to advance and safeguard agricultural practices for residents’ benefit according to its official website.

Looking ahead, continued compliance with certification standards is expected as part of ongoing efforts by the department to foster growth and ensure proper stewardship within North Dakota’s agricultural sector according to its official website.
