Dickinson State University announces Spring 2026 commencement ceremony and student speakers

Dickinson State University will hold its Spring 2026 Commencement Ceremony on May 16 at 10:00 a.m. Mountain Time in Scott Gymnasium, according to a May 5 announcement.

The event will honor the achievements of graduating students and recognize their academic accomplishments. A total of 214 students are set to be recognized during the ceremony, with some earning multiple degrees or certificates. The graduates include recipients of 33 master’s degrees, 150 bachelor’s degrees, 28 associate degrees, and 65 certificates. Additionally, seventy students will graduate with honors for outstanding academic achievement.

Student speakers Mychal Reanne Cook and John-Michael Gonzalez Jr. have been selected to address their peers during the ceremony. Cook is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in addiction studies; she is known for her advocacy work as a peer support specialist with the North Dakota Brain Injury Network and as co-founder of two organizations focused on brain injury recovery and support. Gonzalez Jr., who is receiving his degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Strength and Conditioning along with a minor in Coaching, has participated as a member of the DSU baseball team and completed an internship in strength and conditioning last year.

Dr. Holly Gruhlke, vice president of academic affairs and provost at Dickinson State University, said: “Commencement is a proud milestone for our students and for Dickinson State University. The Spring 2026 graduates leave not only with strong academic foundations, but with the skills, experiences, and professionalism needed to contribute meaningfully to today’s workforce. They are prepared to meet evolving industry needs with adaptability and purpose. We are confident they will strengthen their communities, support regional and state workforce demands, and make a lasting impact wherever their careers take them.”

President Scott Molander said: “Commencement is a powerful milestone that reflects the hard work, perseverance, and determination of our students. At Dickinson State University, we are proud to celebrate graduates who are prepared to lead, serve, and make a meaningful impact in their communities. We look forward to seeing all they will accomplish in the years ahead.”

The university serves southwestern North Dakota by delivering high-quality education aimed at enhancing intellectual growth as well as social development through leadership programs such as the Theodore Roosevelt Honors Leadership Program; it also promotes community service among its student body according to the official website. The Blue Hawks mascot symbolizes adaptability while representing DSU’s athletic spirit; campus life takes place on historic grounds atop scenic hillsides overlooking Dickinson.

The commencement ceremony is open to members of the public who wish to attend.
