The U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated $9,201,975 in grants to the North Dakota Department of Transportation. The funds are distributed through the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program. This program is designed to assist state and local resources in managing significant expenses caused by extraordinary conditions.

A substantial portion of the funding, amounting to $8,946,150, is designated for addressing severe flooding that impacted Eastern North Dakota on April 12, 2022. This event resulted in extensive damage to culverts and roadway erosion across state and county roadways.

An additional grant of $255,825 will be used to repair damages from a separate overland and riverine flooding incident that occurred on April 10, 2023. This event caused a landslide along with further damage to culverts and erosion affecting both state and county roads.
