The Emmons County Historical Society has been found in violation of open records laws, according to a recent opinion issued on December 20, 2024. The society failed to create meeting minutes and did not respond to a records request within a reasonable time frame.
This conclusion was reached following an inquiry into whether the society had neglected its obligations under open records laws by not producing meeting minutes or providing copies of these minutes and financial statements promptly.
“The Emmons County Historical Society did violate open records laws by failing to create minutes and failing to respond to a records request within a reasonable time,” states the official response.
