Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota expressed her views following the inclusion of key provisions from her legislation, the Ending Intermittent Energy Subsidies Act, in the budget reconciliation text released by the House Ways and Means Committee.
Fedorchak stated, “I came to Congress to be a voice for restoring reliability to our power grid. Time and time again, I’ve heard from grid operators that federal policies are sending the wrong market signals to energy producers—flooding the market with weather-dependent power when we need more power that is available all the time.” She further emphasized her support for phasing out tax credits, saying, “Retiring these tax credits will save taxpayers billions of dollars, strengthen our grid, and help deliver on the promise of the One Big Beautiful bill to make America stronger, safer, and more competitive.”
Fedorchak has consistently focused on improving grid reliability during her tenure in Congress. In January 2025, she met with Chair Jason Smith and testified at a committee hearing about potential risks associated with current tax credits for wind and solar energy. The following month, she hosted a Special Order on the House Floor addressing threats to energy security.
In April 2025, Fedorchak introduced both a resolution highlighting grid reliability issues and her Ending Intermittent Energy Subsidies Act aimed at phasing out certain tax credits established under Sections 45Y and 48E of the Inflation Reduction Act. She also collaborated with Senator Kevin Cramer in May 2025 to urge Republican leadership to reform federal energy tax credits.
