U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer has expressed his approval following a jury’s decision in Mandan, North Dakota, holding Greenpeace liable for defamation linked to its role in the Dakota Access Pipeline protests that took place in Morton County during 2016-17. The lawsuit was initiated by Energy Transfer Partners, the parent company of the pipeline.
Senator Cramer commented on the ruling: “This is what justice looks like in America. This is what happens when common sense prevails. I’m grateful to Energy Transfer Partners for initiating the lawsuit, and for not just walking away, which it certainly could have done.”
He extended his gratitude towards Energy Transfer Partners: “Thank you on behalf of American energy security, on behalf of the company and its shareholders. And most importantly, on behalf of the people of North Dakota, especially the folks of western North Dakota, who live every single day with the knowledge that they’re providing a lot of energy for a growing economy in a great country. It has everything to do with their local pride.”
The Senator criticized Greenpeace and associated environmental groups: “Today, justice has been done with Greenpeace and its radical environmentalist buddies who encouraged this destructive behavior during the Dakota Access Pipeline protests with their defamatory and false claims about the pipeline. They can think twice now about doing it again.”
Cramer concluded by congratulating Energy Transfer Partners: “Congratulations to Energy Transfer Partners on the big victory. Thank you for your investment in North Dakota, in American excellence, and in this important fight.”
