Ward County has received $4,050,000 from the Department of Transportation’s Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program for a corridor project in Minot. The funds will be used to plan and design three road corridors and their intersections. These improvements aim to provide alternative routes for emergency responders and heavy freight vehicles, allowing them to bypass downtown Minot and helping reduce congestion.
The project includes work on two main connectors: the Outer Connector, which extends from US Highway 2/52 to US Highway 83 along County Roads 14 and 16, and the Inner Connector, which runs from US Highway 2/52 to County Road 14 along 30th Street SW.
Senator John Hoeven commented on the funding award: “As Minot and North Dakota continue to grow, this funding provides the city with the resources to develop a transportation system that keeps up with demand. It enables the planning and design of key road connections that will improve traffic flow, enhance safety, and support future development. These alternative routes will be vital links to help keep Minot—and the region—moving forward.”
Earlier in the year, Senator Hoeven led efforts by sending a letter supporting the City of Minot and Ward County’s application for this project.
