Senator John Hoeven, who chairs the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee and is a senior member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, has commented on the new trade agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom. The announcement was made by the Trump administration.

Hoeven expressed optimism about the deal, stating that it addresses longstanding issues faced by U.S. producers in accessing foreign markets. “Foreign countries have long put up excessive tariffs and other barriers that close off their markets, while expecting easy access to U.S. consumers,” he said. Hoeven emphasized that American producers need fair conditions in international trade.

The agreement with the U.K. is expected to open $5 billion in export opportunities for U.S. businesses, including nearly $1 billion specifically for agricultural products such as ethanol and beef. Hoeven described this development as “a good start” and anticipates further advancements as negotiations continue.
