Senator John Hoeven called on March 12 for Senate Democrats to support funding the Department of Homeland Security, emphasizing the importance of agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency in protecting against threats from Iranian-backed groups and other adversaries.

The senator said that ensuring continued funding for these agencies is necessary to maintain national security and pay federal employees who work to keep the country safe. Hoeven urged his colleagues to pass either bipartisan legislation already negotiated or a clean Continuing Resolution that would maintain current funding levels while further negotiations take place.

Hoeven said, “The bottom line is this – Senate Democrats need to join with us to get DHS funded, so we can pay hardworking Americans from TSA to CISA, the folks who work to keep our nation safe. If Democrats want to continue to debate ICE reforms, we can do that, but at the very least, join with us in passing a Continuing Resolution so TSA gets paid while we do it… Let’s fund DHS and move on from this unnecessary shutdown. We owe it to the hardworking Americans at the Department of Homeland Security.”

According to the official website, Hoeven serves on several key committees including Appropriations; Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; and Energy and Natural Resources according to the official website. He represents all of North Dakota as its U.S. Senator according to the official website.

Hoeven also engages with constituents through newsletters, town halls, and public events as noted on the official website. His priorities include agriculture, energy policy, veterans’ services, Native American communities, and economic development according to the official website.

The debate over DHS funding comes amid broader discussions about immigration enforcement reforms. The outcome may affect not only federal workers but also ongoing efforts related to national security.
