The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced on April 6 that it will award a total of $9.4 million to several communities in North Dakota, including Bismarck, Fargo, Grand Forks, Minot, and the state government.

The funding aims to support affordable housing initiatives and provide assistance to individuals facing homelessness or housing instability. The Community Development Block Grant Program will distribute annual grants based on a formula to help states and cities develop viable urban areas by offering decent housing and expanding economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income residents.

Under this program, the state of North Dakota will receive $3,559,742; Fargo will get $828,465; Grand Forks is allocated $425,671; Bismarck receives $405,839; and Minot is set for $287,456. Additionally, the Emergency Solutions Grant Program will provide $489,698 to the state with the goal of helping people quickly regain permanent housing after experiencing a crisis or homelessness.

The HOME Investment Partnerships Program will also contribute funds: the state is set to receive $3 million while Fargo receives an additional $447,443. These funds are intended for building or rehabilitating affordable homes as well as providing direct rental assistance in partnership with local nonprofit groups.
