Senator John Hoeven announced on Mar. 31 that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has renewed more than $450,000 in Continuum of Care grants for two organizations in North Dakota. The YWCA Cass Clay and the Abused Adult Resource Center in Bismarck will receive funding to support transitional and supportive housing programs.
The renewed grants aim to help address homelessness by supporting local service providers. According to Hoeven, “These Continuum of Care grants are extremely import to combat homelessness, and we appreciate the organizations and leaders that provide those services.” He said that passing legislation was necessary “to ensure this funding will be in place for the current Fiscal Year, as we continue working to provide certainty for these providers in future years.” Hoeven also welcomed HUD’s action on renewing first quarter grants and expressed anticipation for additional renewals later this year.
The awards include $225,284 for YWCA Cass Clay’s Transitional Housing program, $155,258 for its Supportive Housing Program, and $83,561 for the Abused Adult Resource Center’s Transitional Housing initiative. Additional grant renewals are expected soon for Fraser Ltd., Grand Forks Housing Authority, and Domestic Violence and Rape Crisis Center in Dickinson.
Hoeven has worked with YWCA Cass Clay CEO Erin Prochnow as well as federal officials including HUD Secretary Scott Turner to ensure continued support for homeless service providers across North Dakota. Grants expiring during each quarter are scheduled to be reviewed at set intervals throughout the year.
Hoeven resides in Bismarck with his wife and family according to the official website. He was elected to represent North Dakota in the U.S. Senate according to the official website after earning degrees from Dartmouth College and Northwestern University according to the official website.
