Vision Zero’s ND Sober Ride program provided a record number of rides during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday, with 784 rides given across North Dakota, according to a Mar. 26 announcement. This milestone comes as the program marks its fifth year of operation.
The ND Sober Ride campaign for 2026 included both Lyft and, for the first time, Uber services. Of the total rides provided, 265 were through Lyft and 519 were through Uber. In comparison, only 126 Lyft rides were offered during the same campaign in 2025.
“ND Sober Ride continues to be a reliable option for North Dakotans who plan ahead and choose a sober ride,” said NDDOT Highway Safety Division Director Karin Mongeon. “Expanding to include Uber allowed us to reach more people than ever before, helping prevent impaired driving.”
The North Dakota Department of Transportation manages eight district offices across the state that handle roadway maintenance, construction oversight, and administrative services according to the official website. The department is responsible for vehicle registration, driver licensing, and maintaining over 8,500 miles of roadways and nearly 4,900 bridges per its official website.
The department operates under executive leadership that includes a director and deputy directors overseeing engineering, administration, planning, and driver services according to its official website. It aims to facilitate safe transport while advancing quality service and economic progress as reported by its official website.
Rides are sponsored by AAA – The Auto Club Group. Businesses or organizations interested in supporting ND Sober Ride can contact jubailey@nd.gov for sponsorship opportunities.
