The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) and Reede Construction, Inc. have announced a road closure related to the Highway 2 Intersection improvement project in Williston. Starting on Tuesday, April 29, 26th Street will close at the frontage road on the west side, extending to 34th Street, while traffic on 34th Street will be reduced to one lane from 26th Street to 33rd Street on the east side of the highway.
These measures are necessary for crews to complete critical roadway improvements needed for the expansion of Williston Square and its surrounding infrastructure. According to the announcement, motorists should plan ahead, expect delays, and follow posted detour signs. Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained whenever possible.
“NDDOT, Reede Construction and The City of Williston appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during this important project to enhance traffic flow and safety in our growing community,” the statement reads.
The project will have Reede Construction reconstruct U.S. Highway 2 between 9th Avenue West and north of 35th Street. Enhancements will include expanded roadway capacity, upgraded intersections, new pedestrian features like sidewalks and crosswalks, and improved lighting and drainage systems.
The timeline for the construction includes initial demolition, which began on March 17, 2025, phase 1 field work commencing on April 21, 2025, with substantial completion expected by October 25, 2025. Final completion, including permanent striping, is projected for June 30, 2026.
Reede Construction and the City of Williston are committed to transparency and community engagement throughout the project. Businesses directly affected have been notified, and public information sessions will be held to share updates and address questions.
