The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is organizing a public input meeting to discuss traffic signals and lighting along U.S. Highway 85. Scheduled for May 20, the meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the McKenzie County Courthouse in Watford City.
The session will be conducted in an open house format. It aims to address the removal of traffic signals at the intersection of U.S. 85 and 2nd Avenue Southwest (U.S. 85B). Currently, this intersection features wood poles with span wire mounted signal heads, which are set to be removed. Instead, stop signs will control east and west approaches while maintaining the existing lighting system.
In contrast, a permanent traffic signal and lighting system is planned for installation at the intersection of U.S. 85 and North Dakota Highway 68.
Representatives from NDDOT will be available during the meeting to answer questions and address concerns from attendees. Additional materials related to the project can be found on the NDDOT website.
For those unable to attend, written comments must be submitted by June 4, 2025. These should include “Public Input Meeting – PCN 24131” in their heading or email subject line and sent to Spencer Ulvestad at either his Bismarck address or email provided by NDDOT.
Efforts will be made by NDDOT to accommodate individuals with disabilities who wish to attend, including language interpretation services upon request.
