The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced on April 13 that it is seeking public comments on an amendment to the 2026-2029 State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) to add a new project in 2026. The department said the project, which involves temporary median crossovers and ramp connections on Interstate 94 from the Mckenzie interchange to east of the Sterling interchange, was previously unpublished and had an unclear location in an earlier press release. The total cost for this project is $1.6 million.
The department invites members of the public to review the current STIP by visiting its website at www.dot.nd.gov and following links under “Construction & Planning” and “Transportation Plans & Programs” to access “STIP 2026-29.” Comments regarding this amendment should be submitted by April 28, either by mail to Michael Wilz at NDDOT’s Bismarck office or via email with “2026 State Federal-Aid Projects” in the subject line.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation manages eight district offices across the state for roadway maintenance, construction oversight, and administrative services, according to the official website. The agency also aims to facilitate safe transport for people and goods while advancing safe travel, quality service, and economic progress according to its official website.
Executive leadership at NDDOT includes a director as well as deputy directors who oversee engineering, administration, planning, and driver services per information from its official site. In addition to overseeing road projects like those proposed in this STIP amendment, NDDOT provides services such as vehicle registration and driver licensing while maintaining more than 8,500 miles of roadways and nearly 4,900 bridges according to its official website.
As a state agency responsible for developing and operating North Dakota’s surface transportation system according to its official site, NDDOT says it will consider every request for reasonable accommodation related to accessibility or language needs for meetings concerning this amendment.
