North Dakota State University Extension and University of Minnesota Extension sheep and goat specialists announced on April 17 a webinar titled “Livestock guardian dogs: Practical insights from the pasture,” scheduled for April 23 at 7 p.m. via Zoom.
The event aims to address ongoing predator challenges faced by livestock producers, offering practical information about using guardian dogs to protect animals. North Dakota State University Extension and Ag Research News supports rural communities and promotes sustainable agriculture practices, according to the official website.
Travis Hoffman, NDSU and UMN Extension sheep specialist, said, “Livestock guard dogs play an important role in the safety and security of ewes and lambs. Participants will learn from a leading expert on how to use dogs in their operation.”
Janet McNally, owner of Tamarack Lamb & Wool, will be the guest speaker for the webinar. McNally brings over forty years of experience with sheep-rearing, including two decades managing flocks in a large predator environment near Hinckley, Minnesota. She has used guardian dogs since 1982 and managed a group of eight to twelve livestock guardian dogs that have deterred wolves, bears, bobcats, coyotes and fishers from her flock after encountering significant wolf activity in her area.
