The North Dakota Industrial Commission has announced the appointment of Brandon Dettlaff as the new executive director of the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency (NDHFA). Dettlaff is set to take over following the retirement of Dave Flohr on June 13.

In a joint statement, commission members expressed confidence in Dettlaff’s capabilities: “Brandon has an excellent understanding of North Dakota’s affordable housing needs and has provided strong leadership as the head of North Dakota Housing Finance Agency’s homeownership division.” They further highlighted his extensive experience with housing programs and stakeholder relationships in the housing and mortgage industries, which they believe will enable him to lead the agency effectively.

Dettlaff’s career with NDHFA began in 2007. He has held various positions within the agency, advancing to become the homeownership director in May 2020. The homeownership division aims to assist primarily first-time buyers by providing homebuyer education, down payment and closing cost assistance, and affordable mortgage loans.

Expressing gratitude for his new role, Dettlaff stated: “I am grateful to the members of the Industrial Commission for putting their trust in me to lead the North Dakota Housing Finance Agency.” He also thanked his colleagues at NDHFA for their dedication to addressing affordable housing needs.

The commission also took a moment to acknowledge Dave Flohr’s four decades-plus service: “The Commission also expressed their gratitude to Dave Flohr for his 41 years of exceptional service.”

NDHFA operates as a self-supporting state agency focused on making housing affordable across North Dakota. It supports not only homeownership but also ensures safe and affordable rental housing for vulnerable groups such as low-wage workers, elderly, disabled individuals, and homeless families.
