The North Dakota Grain Growers Association announced on Dec. 16 the results of its officer elections held during the 2021 Prairie Grains Conference at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. Members also voted on resolutions for the upcoming year and recognized individuals with awards.
This event is important as it sets the leadership and direction for one of North Dakota’s key agricultural organizations, which represents farmers and works to promote economic vitality through advocacy, education, and market development, according to the official website.
During the meeting, Troy Bratcher was re-elected as Northwest Director, Jeff Mertz as Northeast Director, Ed Kessel as Southwest Director, and Dean Knell as Southeast Director. The following officers were elected for 2022: Tom Bernhardt as President, Ed Kessel as First Vice President, Ryan Ellis as Second Vice President, and Dean Knell as Secretary/Treasurer.
The association also presented its Kernel Award to two recipients who have dedicated their careers to advancing agriculture in North Dakota: John Weinand received the Kernel Award for a Farmer and Neal Fisher received the Kernel Award for Industry.
The North Dakota Grain Growers Association obtains funding through membership dues from farmers and agricultural leaders. It aims to boost profitability and value-added opportunities for North Dakota farmers through education, leadership initiatives, advocacy efforts, collaboration with other organizations such as the Midwest Council on Agriculture, and by influencing state and federal policy in support of wheat and barley producers statewide while engaging at both local and federal levels—all according to information provided by the official website.
Looking ahead, these newly elected leaders will guide organizational activities that impact both local growers’ interests and broader agricultural policy.
