North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has opened applications for grant funding from the state’s opioid settlement funds. This financial support will aid initiatives targeting the impact of opioid use disorder and enhance accessibility to prevention, treatment, and recovery services across North Dakota. The deadline for applications is Monday, April 28, by 11:59 p.m. CT.
Entities interested in offering various evidence-based services in North Dakota, including treatment and rehabilitation, prevention programs, training, and community and family support, are eligible for the grant.
Proposals aligning with priority recommendations from the Opioid Settlement Advisory Committee, led by Christopher Joseph, general counsel for the Governor’s Office, will receive extra points. These recommendations prioritize expanding access to community-based treatment and recovery services in both rural and non-rural areas, increasing treatment and recovery services in jails, supporting community coalitions and youth-focused prevention activities, enhancing the behavioral health workforce, and supporting Syringe Service Programs.
“These funds provide an opportunity to make meaningful investments in North Dakota’s communities by supporting evidence-based programs that address opioid use disorder and its widespread impact,” Joseph stated. “We encourage organizations to apply and help strengthen prevention, treatment, and recovery services across the state.”
Grant recipients will be announced in early June, with contracts starting on July 1 for a duration of 24 months. The total available funding depends on legislatively allocated funds for the 2025-2027 biennium. Full application guidelines and submission details are available at hhs.nd.gov/opioids/settlement.
The national opioid settlements reached with manufacturers and distributors include North Dakota among the participating states. A stipulation for receiving settlement funds is establishing an advisory committee and using the funds in line with Exhibit E of the settlement documents.
