North Dakota hunters harvested 23,300 deer during 2024 season

A recent survey by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department reports that approximately 23,300 deer were taken by 42,416 hunters during the 2024 deer gun hunting season. In the preceding year, 50,100 deer gun licenses were offered, with an overall hunter success rate of 55%. On average, hunters spent 4.7 days in the field.

Success rates for various deer types differed. Antlered white-tailed deer hunters achieved a 49% success rate, while those hunting antlerless white-tailed deer saw a 44% success rate. Mule deer buck hunters had an 80% success rate, with a 78% rate for those pursuing antlerless mule deer.

In most hunting units, deer licenses were primarily used for white-tailed deer. Buck hunters enjoyed a higher success rate of 61%, compared to a 56% success rate for doe hunters. Additionally, 11,920 gratis licenses were issued in 2024, leading to 9,484 hunters harvesting 4,199 deer, a 44% success rate.
