The North Dakota Insurance Department has announced its success in assisting over 1,500 consumers with insurance-related issues throughout 2024. The department’s efforts led to the recovery of more than $2 million for policyholders statewide.

Insurance Commissioner Jon Godfread emphasized the department’s role as a consumer protection agency. It provides support to individuals dealing with various insurance policies, including health, life, auto, and homeowners’ insurance. The assistance covers a range of issues such as denied claims, improper billing, policy cancellations, and other disputes between policyholders and insurers.

“Our mission is to protect North Dakota consumers and ensure they receive the benefits and coverage they are entitled to,” said Godfread. “These recoveries represent real financial relief for individuals and families who likely have gone through some of the worst days of their lives.” He also encouraged residents with insurance concerns to reach out to the department for help in ensuring that insurers meet their obligations.

Throughout 2024, the department managed 1,590 consumer inquiries and received 202 complaints against insurance companies and agents. Over $2 million was returned to policyholders through claim adjustments, policy corrections, and negotiated settlements—more than double what was recovered in 2023.

For those seeking assistance with insurance matters, the department can be contacted at (701) 328-2440 or via their website at insurance.nd.gov.
