Applications for elk, moose, and bighorn sheep hunting licenses are now available online through the North Dakota Game and Fish Department’s website. The deadline to apply is March 25.
This year, 1,062 elk licenses will be issued, which is an increase of 102 from last year. The number of moose licenses remains unchanged at 296.
A bighorn sheep hunting season is tentatively planned for 2026. The final decision on whether the season will take place will be made on September 1 after summer population surveys are completed.
The North Dakota Game and Fish Department manages wildlife populations and habitats across the state and issues permits for hunting and fishing. It also offers educational programs to promote conservation awareness and provides resources for habitat protection and public access to outdoor activities. More information about licensing, education courses, and conservation initiatives can be found on the department’s official website.
The department collaborates with landowners through programs such as Private Land Open To Sportsmen to improve habitat protection and public access. Its work includes community engagement efforts like hunter education courses and outreach programs aimed at fostering conservation awareness among residents.
