The North Dakota softball team lost to the Omaha Mavericks by a score of 8-0 on Thursday evening at Albrecht Field. The defeat brings North Dakota’s record to 25-20 overall and 2-8 in conference play, while Omaha improves to 30-9 and holds a strong Summit League record of 12-1.

The game was close through five innings, with North Dakota trailing just 1-0 entering the sixth. However, Omaha scored seven runs over the final two innings, ultimately outhitting North Dakota 13-4. Hits for North Dakota came from Makenna Alexander, Taya Hopfauf, Brooklyn House, and Chloe Bethune. The team left seven runners stranded on base.

Tegan Livesay took the loss as pitcher for North Dakota, dropping her season record to 11-8 after pitching five and two-thirds innings with nine hits allowed and four runs surrendered. She recorded five strikeouts without issuing any walks. Tehya Armstrong pitched one and one-third innings in relief, giving up four runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

Omaha opened scoring in the second inning with an RBI double from Sammy Schmidt. Despite opportunities for North Dakota in both the second and third innings—such as having runners on second and third with no outs—the team was unable to capitalize.

Omaha extended its lead in the sixth inning through RBI singles by Alyson Edwards and Ava Rongisch before adding four more runs in a seventh-inning rally that included a two-run home run by Schmidt. The series continues tomorrow at Albrecht Field at 3 p.m., broadcast on Midco Sports.
