North Dakota State University’s men’s golf team finished the first day of the Hawkeye Invitational in eighth place out of 14 teams, according to an April 20 update from the event at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside, Iowa.

The tournament marks a key point as it concludes both the regular season and offers players a final chance to compete before postseason play. The Bison will complete their final round on Tuesday.

Carter White and Rylin Petry led North Dakota State on day one, each tying for 22nd at three over par after two rounds. White started strong with a first-round score of 69, which included six birdies and put him in second place after 18 holes. He followed with a second-round score of 78, adding three more birdies but also facing stretches with consecutive bogeys that brought his total to +3. Petry opened with a round of 74 that featured one birdie and fourteen pars, then improved in round two by carding five birdies en route to a team-best score of 73.

Andrew Ballou posted consistent rounds of 75 for an overall +6, placing him in thirty-fourth position. Ballou recorded two birdies and eleven pars during his opening round and added another birdie alongside fourteen pars to finish the day. Gabe Benson and Jake Skarperud rounded out the main lineup for North Dakota State at nine over par each; Skarperud shot rounds of 78 and 75 while Benson finished with scores of 77 and 76. Joey Mackinac competed as an individual participant for NDSU, shooting consecutive rounds of 77 to sit at ten over par in fifty-eighth place.

The Bison are set to conclude both their tournament appearance and regular season when they return for Tuesday’s final round at Blue Top Ridge beginning at nine o’clock in the morning.
