North Dakota track and field athletes set four new school records on April 19 during a weekend of competition in California and Texas, according to the university.
The performances highlight a period of strong results for the program, with several athletes achieving personal bests and high conference rankings. The events took place at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational in Houston, Texas, and the Beach Invitational at Long Beach State.
Louis-Lys Fanucchi broke two school records: first by running a sub-14-minute time of 13:47.01 in the men’s 5,000-meter run—becoming only the second collegian from North Dakota to do so—and then setting another record with his time of 3:39.14 in the men’s invite 1500-meter run. Both times rank among the top performances in their respective conferences this season.
Jadyn Keeler improved her own women’s 1500-meter record with a personal-best time of 4:19.41. In Texas, Anya Williams surpassed her previous women’s triple jump mark with a leap of 40-11½ (12.48m), earning first place and leading all conference competitors this season.
Other notable performances included Olivia Correale’s personal best of 4:20.94—the second-fastest women’s 1500-meter time in school history—and Katie Rogers’ debut performance that placed her eighth all-time for North Dakota. Ava Phrakonkham reached finals appearances in both sprint events while Marta Marksa secured podium finishes in hurdles competitions.
Throwers also represented North Dakota at Long Beach State, where Ilaria Villa placed highest among women’s discus competitors from UND. The team is scheduled to compete next at Minnesota’s Gary Wilson Invitational before heading to Jamestown for further competition.
