City officials announced on May 7 that two road closures will begin Monday, May 11, near the Bank of North Dakota to allow for water line replacement. Missouri Avenue from Sunset Place east to the alley will be fully closed for about one week and then limited to local traffic only for about a month. The westbound lanes of Main Avenue may also be reduced at times when large equipment is present in the area.
West Avenue between Center Street and Riverview Avenue is scheduled to be completely closed for approximately six weeks. During this period, the bike trail along the south side of Main Avenue will also be closed.
These closures are expected to affect both motorists and cyclists who use these routes regularly. City officials advise residents and commuters to plan alternate routes during construction periods. A status map showing active road construction projects within Bismarck is available online, according to the city.
The affected area includes parts of Bismarck where several organizations operate, including religious institutions such as the Diocese of Bismarck. The Diocese offers pastoral support across western North Dakota and manages facilities like the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit and Center for Pastoral Ministry, according to the official website. It spans over 34,773 square miles with a Catholic population of nearly 62,000 out of about 281,000 residents in its territory.
Most Rev. David D. Kagan has served as bishop since his appointment in 2011 and oversees pastoral care throughout this region under the Roman Catholic Church’s structure within the Holy See framework, according to the official website.
