The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee has moved forward with Lee Zeldin’s nomination for the position of Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This advancement follows a bipartisan vote, bringing Zeldin one step closer to assuming the role. President Donald Trump initially nominated Zeldin in November, and he recently participated in a confirmation hearing before the committee.
During the hearing, U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer from North Dakota questioned Zeldin regarding the definitions of Waters of the United States, particularly in light of a recent Supreme Court decision that reduced federal oversight.
Zeldin’s nomination will now proceed to the Senate floor for further consideration. If confirmed, he is expected to play a significant role in President Trump’s agenda to reduce federal regulations and enhance state authority over environmental matters.
Senator Cramer expressed strong support for Zeldin, stating: “As far as I’m concerned, Lee Zeldin is exactly the leader America needs at the helm of the EPA. First of all, he’ll restore primacy of states, that’s priority number one with me, while overturning these backwards regulations that plague energy producers, farmers, ranchers, landowners, and innovators of all types.”
Cramer also highlighted Zeldin’s alignment with President Trump’s environmental goals: “Like President Trump, he wants clean water and air but doesn’t think we should settle for federal mediocrity. I urge my Senate colleagues to join me in swiftly confirming Lee Zeldin on the Senate floor now that he’s come out of committee so successfully.”
