Senator John Hoeven held a community meeting in Devils Lake, North Dakota, to address the need for better health care access in the region. This meeting is part of an ongoing series where Hoeven collaborates with local leaders and health care professionals to develop solutions that improve care for residents.
“We convened today’s meeting today to have an open and honest discussion about the future of health care in the Lake Region,” stated Hoeven. “CommonSpirit needs to hear firsthand about these challenges from local residents. Our goal is to secure the resources, tools and facilities that this area’s health care professionals need to effectively serve local residents.”
Hoeven highlighted that Devils Lake Hospital lacks the capacity required to meet community needs despite efforts by local health workers. In response, CommonSpirit Health has committed to presenting a plan for investment in hospital facilities starting December. This includes a new emergency room and a master plan for review by February. Additionally, Essentia Health will provide a plan by February outlining potential developments for a new hospital in the area.
Hoeven continues his efforts to enhance rural health services, benefiting both patients and providers in communities like Grafton, Hazen, and Rugby. As Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture Appropriations Committee, he supports USDA programs crucial for developing new facilities in these areas.
