Senator John Hoeven recently convened a roundtable with members of the Dickinson Municipal Airport Authority and local leaders to discuss progress on a new terminal building for the Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport. As part of the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Committee, Hoeven initiated this project in 2022 and has been actively working to advance it. The development aims to enhance air service capacity in the region.
The proposed project includes not only a new terminal building but also a new apron, connecting taxiways, and a parking lot. This infrastructure expansion is designed to accommodate increased demand for air travel. From 2022 to 2023, enplanements at the Dickinson airport rose by over 2,500 passengers, marking an increase of nearly 12 percent.
Dickinson plans to start the bidding process and construction in 2026. The project’s estimated cost is $46.5 million, with Hoeven striving to secure federal funding for support. This effort follows nearly $50 million previously obtained by Hoeven for the airport’s runway extension project completed in 2023.
“With the new administration incoming, we are well-positioned to strengthen our state’s economy, particularly as we lift the regulatory burden off of our energy industry and empower the development of all of our abundant energy resources,” said Hoeven. “It is critical that we have the infrastructure needed to support the demands of a growing economy, which is exactly why we have worked to advance airport expansions, like the new terminal project here in Dickinson.”
Hoeven’s efforts form part of his long-term strategy to expand state airports to meet population and economic growth needs while ensuring safe transportation. Besides Dickinson, he has supported similar initiatives across North Dakota, including completed projects at airports in Williston and Minot. He continues backing Fargo’s airport terminal expansion as well.
