Senator John Hoeven has voiced his opposition to the Biden administration’s finalization of a rule implementing the Natural Gas Tax. This measure was initially passed as part of broader tax legislation in 2021, which Hoeven criticizes as “reckless.” He argues that it adds to existing mandates on oil and natural gas producers.
Hoeven, a member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, stated he is actively working against these regulations. He plans to lead a Congressional Review Act resolution aimed at overturning the Natural Gas Tax rule. Additionally, he is co-sponsoring a bill with Senator Ted Cruz to repeal this provision.
The senator expressed intentions to collaborate with the incoming Trump administration and new Congress. His goals include repealing what he describes as burdensome federal rules imposed by the current administration. These efforts are intended to improve access to energy resources owned by taxpayers, streamline energy development approvals, reduce production costs, fight inflation, and lower prices for consumers.
“Finalizing the Natural Gas Tax is part of a last-minute effort by the Biden administration to continue imposing its radical environmentalist agenda,” said Hoeven. “Instead, we will work to repeal costly policies like the Natural Gas Tax and empower the development of all our abundant energy resources.”
Hoeven asserts that such measures will provide relief to American consumers and re-establish U.S. energy dominance.
