The North Dakota Department of Transportation announced on March 30 that the southbound movement from the Interstate 94/Bismarck Expressway exit ramp to 46th Avenue Southeast will be closed starting Wednesday at 9 a.m., weather permitting. The closure is expected to last through April 22 as crews complete concrete work at the intersection.
This temporary closure will affect motorists traveling on Memorial Highway who need to access southbound 46th Avenue Southeast. Drivers exiting onto 46th Avenue Southeast will not be able to travel south but can still turn right onto Memorial Highway. Those needing to go south on 46th Avenue Southeast are advised to use the McKenzie Drive interchange as an alternate route. Access to businesses in the area will remain available during this period.
The North Dakota Department of Transportation manages eight district offices across the state for roadway maintenance, construction oversight, and administrative services, according to the official website. The agency provides services such as vehicle registration, driver licensing, and upkeep of more than 8,500 miles of roadways and nearly 4,900 bridges per its official website.
Executive leadership within the department includes a director and deputy directors who oversee engineering, administration, planning, and driver services according to its official website. The department aims to facilitate safe transport of people and goods across North Dakota while advancing safe travel practices, quality service delivery, and economic progress as stated by its official website.
Motorists are encouraged by officials to expect changing traffic patterns during this phase of construction. Drivers are reminded to stay alert for signage and follow posted directions in order to help maintain safety for both travelers and work crews.
