FOIA Request to North Dakota Secretary of State - Elections Department Regarding Spring Elections Candidates for Office on February 5, 2025.
We at Peace Garden News, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, have submitted a request under the North Dakota Open Records Statute, N.D.C.C. §44-04-18 et seq., for records pertaining to the upcoming spring elections.
Our request specifically seeks an electronic format list of all candidates running in these elections. We've asked for details including the candidate's first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; jurisdiction of the office; and their party affiliation.
Additionally, we have requested contact information for each candidate which includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As a media organization committed to transparency and accountability in public institutions, we believe that access to these public records is essential in fulfilling our professional responsibilities. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional.
