Dakota College's Professor of Science, Angie Bartholomay, has been recognized for her contributions to environmental education. The Leadership in Education award, presented by Project Learning Tree (PLT), acknowledges educators who significantly impact youth environmental education within their state.
Beth Hill, the North Dakota PLT State Coordinator at the North Dakota Forest Service, praised Bartholomay's dedication: “Angie is a pillar in the North Dakota PLT program. As a facilitator and educator, she has worked with Project Learning Tree and state partners to promote environmental stewardship through education. She is integral in nurturing the next generation of environmentally literate educators and students across the state.”
Bartholomay began teaching PLT over 30 years ago and currently serves as a science professor at Dakota College in Bottineau. She conducts workshops for teachers and preservice education students, collaborating with local natural resource professionals on topics such as soil health and conservation tree production. Additionally, she organizes events like career fairs to highlight green career pathways.
Josh Brankman, VP of Education at SFI/PLT, noted Bartholomay's efforts: “Angie’s passion for improving access to environmental education is one of the things that truly makes her stand out... We are pleased to honor Angie for her leadership and dedication in environmental education in North Dakota.”
Since its inception in 1976, PLT has reached 145 million students and trained 765,000 educators globally. The initiative aims to develop students' awareness and appreciation of the environment while encouraging informed decision-making.
Bartholomay will be honored alongside Butch Bailey from Mississippi State University Extension Service and Susan Cox from the USDA Forest Service at the 2025 PLT Annual Conference in Clemson, South Carolina.
