Senators John Hoeven and Mike Rounds have introduced two legislative bills aimed at enhancing Second Amendment rights for military families and individuals who travel full-time. The proposed Traveler’s Gun Rights Act and the Protect Our Military Families’ 2nd Amendment Rights Act seek to amend sections of the Gun Control Act of 1968. These amendments would address unique living situations, such as those of military spouses and travelers whose permanent addresses are private mailboxes or post office boxes.

"We introduced these pieces of legislation to help ensure that military families and full-time travelers can exercise their Second Amendment rights without unnecessary obstacles," said Senator Hoeven. "These bills provide consistent protection, whether at home or on the move, strengthening the rights of those who serve and reinforcing the freedoms that benefit all Americans."

Senator Rounds emphasized his commitment to protecting lawful gun owners' rights, stating, "The laws currently on the books do not go far enough in acknowledging the unique living situations of many Americans, including military families and full-time travelers. These bills would amend the law to remove roadblocks for law-abiding citizens trying to exercise their Second Amendment rights."

Several senators have joined Hoeven and Rounds in supporting these bills. Cosponsors of the Traveler’s Gun Rights Act include Senators John Boozman, Ted Budd, Kevin Cramer, Cindy Hyde-Smith, James Lankford, Roger Marshall, and James Risch. The Protect Our Military Families’ 2nd Amendment Rights Act is cosponsored by Senators Ted Budd, Shelley Moore Capito, Kevin Cramer, Cindy Hyde-Smith, Jim Justice, James Risch, and Rick Scott.
