Today, Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak from North Dakota cast her vote in favor of the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act, also known as H.R. 22. This move emphasizes her commitment to maintaining the integrity of American elections. The SAVE Act introduces a requirement for standard proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections, aligning with practices already established in North Dakota.

"In North Dakota, we've set a precedent for election integrity by requiring voters to present valid identification that confirms their name, current residential address, and date of birth," stated Fedorchak. She emphasized that this approach has been effective in protecting against electoral fraud and upholding public confidence in the democratic process.

North Dakota, unique in its absence of a voter registration system, requires residents to provide identification for voting, with details confirming their name, address, and birth date. This measure ensures that only citizens vote in elections.

The SAVE Act promotes clear and consistent verification measures for voters nationwide, similar to North Dakota's existing practices. Secretary of State Michael Howe praised the legislation, "I applaud Congresswoman Fedorchak and the House of Representatives for passing the SAVE Act. The SAVE Act will further ensure that only qualified electors of North Dakota are voting in our elections through increased access to federal immigration data from Secretary Noem and the Department of Homeland Security. North Dakota has been proactive in enacting commonsense election integrity initiatives such as a voter ID requirement, proof of citizenship, and only using paper ballots. Free and fair elections are the foundation of American democracy. Congress’s SAVE Act compliments North Dakota’s efforts in having a trusted, secure, and accurate election system."

Congresswoman Fedorchak plans to continue endorsing methods to improve the security and dependability of the electoral system, aiming to preserve the democratic process for future generations.
