Senator John Hoeven participated in a recent vote aiming to annul a Department of Energy rule from the Biden administration that raised energy efficiency standards for tankless water heaters by 11 to 15 percent. This regulatory change could potentially eliminate around 40 percent of the market for these heaters. The resolution, introduced under the Congressional Review Act, seeks to overturn the rule, which Hoeven argues would otherwise compel consumers to spend an additional $450 on alternative water heater options.

In expressing his position, Senator Hoeven stated, “We voted to overturn the Biden administration’s overly stringent standards for tankless water heaters that would have removed the most affordable options from the market.” He further emphasized the need for consumer choice, saying, “Americans should be able to choose the water heater that works best for their budget and their home, not forced to use a more expensive alternative.”
