The North Dakota Department of Agriculture is marking National Soy Foods Month with a cooking demonstration on April 15. The event will feature students from the United Tribes Technical College's sustainable agriculture and food systems program. It is set to take place at 3 p.m. at the United Tribes Technical College campus in Bismarck.
Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring highlighted the occasion, saying, "April is National Soy Foods Month, and students will add their own unique culinary flare to a soy foods recipe utilizing edamame." He added that those attending will gain insights into soybeans and other specialty crops significant to North Dakota's agriculture.
Edamame, which are immature soybeans, will be the focal point of the culinary presentation as they are harvested while still green.
Before the cooking demonstration, the public can attend a tour of the college's new greenhouse at 2 p.m. Participants will learn about sustainable farming and innovative crop cultivation practices. The greenhouse tour will also be available online.
Signups for both the greenhouse tour and cooking demonstration are available at the provided online link. Inquiries can be directed to Jenna Nieters, the Local Foods Marketing Specialist with the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, via email or phone.
