The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) has announced a Farm to School video essay contest available to fourth grade classrooms within Bismarck Public Schools. NDDA is set to produce a Farm to School video this summer, showcasing the program's activities and the local farms engaged with it. The victorious classroom will be awarded a farm field trip during summer and have a feature in the video.

According to Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, “The goal of Farm to School is to connect students with local food and give them opportunities to learn where their food comes from.” He further stated, “The video essay contest will provide greater understanding of what the program means to students and gives them a chance to visit a local farm to see how it operates.”

Student participants are required to discuss what Farm to School means to them in their video entries. Submissions will be evaluated by NDDA, the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, and Bismarck Public Schools' local foods coordinators.

More information on the contest is accessible at www.ndda.nd.gov/F2SVideoContest, with a submission deadline of May 2, 2025. Inquiries can be directed to NDDA Local Foods Marketing Specialist, Jenna Nieters, at 701-328-2659 or via email at jnieters@nd.gov.
