As part of the ongoing reconstruction project on Memorial Highway, significant traffic changes are set to occur in southeast Mandan this month.

On Tuesday, May 13, 19th Street Southeast will reopen, restoring an essential north-south route for local drivers. This reopening comes just before the temporary closure of 21st Street Southeast. The closure is scheduled to begin on Thursday, May 15, and will extend from Shoal Loop Southeast to 46th Avenue Southeast to allow for storm sewer installation. Shoal Loop Southeast will remain accessible during this period.

The closure of 21st Street is expected to last approximately one month. During this time, drivers are advised to use 19th Street Southeast or other alternative routes to avoid delays and maintain smooth traffic flow.

These adjustments are part of a series of phased infrastructure improvements aimed at supporting the broader drainage and roadway reconstruction efforts along Memorial Highway.

Motorists are urged to adhere to posted detour signs, reduce speed, and exercise caution within construction zones. Pedestrians should also avoid active work areas for their own safety and that of construction crews.

"We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as this important work continues," stated officials involved with the project. For more information and updates on the project, individuals can visit www.dot.nd.gov/memorialhwy.

The North Dakota Department of Transportation reminds all motorists to drive safely and remain alert in all work zones.
