Senator John Hoeven of North Dakota addressed the Senate to honor the nation's law enforcement officers. His remarks followed the Senate's unanimous approval of a resolution he introduced with Senators Chuck Grassley and Dick Durbin, designating May 12 through 17 as National Police Week.
Hoeven expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by police officers, stating, "We can never fully repay our police officers for such enormous sacrifices, but we can continue to show respect for our law enforcement, honor those we’ve lost and recognize the sacrifices of their families and loved ones."
The resolution aims to pay tribute to law enforcement personnel and highlight their bravery. Hoeven remarked on the significance of National Police Week as a time for national recognition of peace officers' commitment to community safety.
The resolution was supported by a bipartisan group of senators including Lindsey Graham, Angus King, Ashley Moody, Catherine Cortez Masto, Susan Collins, Ben Ray Lujan, Tim Sheehy, Richard Blumenthal, John Kennedy, Christopher Coons, Tim Scott, Ruben Gallego, Jim Risch, Peter Welch, Mitch McConnell, Tim Kaine, Tommy Tuberville, Amy Klobuchar, Rand Paul, Raphael Warnock, Mike Crapo among others.
