North Dakota’s sandhill crane hunting season will begin on September 20 and continue through November 16. The state is divided into two management units for the season. In unit 1, which covers areas west of U.S. Highway 281, hunters are allowed a daily limit of three cranes and a possession limit of nine. In unit 2, located east of U.S. Highway 281, the limits are set at two cranes per day and six in possession.

Shooting hours are scheduled from 30 minutes before sunrise until 2 p.m. each day. However, starting September 27 and continuing through the end of the season, shooting hours will be extended to sunset on Saturdays and Wednesdays.
