The University of North Dakota track and field teams earned six medals, including a sweep in the women’s 10,000-meter event, at the opening day of the 2026 Summit League Outdoor Championships in Fargo, N.D., on May 14.

The performance places the UND women in first with 57 points after three events, while the men’s team stands fifth with eight points. Both teams faced extreme winds throughout the competition.

Jadyn Keeler led a podium sweep for UND in the women’s 10,000-meter run by defending her title with a Summit League and venue record time of 35:03.58. Shewaye Johnson finished second with another conference and venue record at 35:16.71, followed by Marie-Louise Jorgensen in third at 36:04.25. Naja Weiler and Sonja Lindemann contributed additional points by finishing fifth and seventh respectively.

Tiffanie Magnusson was recognized as Summit League Scholar of the Championships before winning gold in the women’s long jump at 20-01.00 (6.12m), becoming only the second UND woman to surpass twenty feet in program history. Her mark is currently ranked twenty-fifth in the Midwest Region and leads all Summit League athletes this season. Marta Marksa achieved a personal best to finish second at 19-06.25 (5.95m), moving to sixth all-time for UND.

Julia Matthews claimed third place in women’s hammer throw with a distance of 187-05 (57.14m), entering UND’s top ten performances for that event; teammates Cailey Morton and Kaylynn Red Tomahawk also scored by placing sixth and seventh respectively.

Eucabeth Kivikangas leads after four events on day one of the heptathlon with a total score of 3,173 points following strong results across hurdles, high jump, shot put—where she was alone above forty feet—and a season-best run in the two hundred meters.

In preliminary rounds for other events, Marksa and Kim Hitchen qualified for finals in women’s four-hundred-meter hurdles while Josh Neil and Ryan Lange advanced to finals on the men’s side; both set personal records that now rank among program bests.

Men’s team scoring through three completed events shows South Dakota leading with forty-six-and-a-half points; North Dakota is fifth overall among five schools listed so far.
