The U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA) has allocated $4 million to the Turtle Mountain Public Utilities Commission. This funding is aimed at expanding and enhancing the water distribution system for the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians in the rural Dunseith area.

The grant will specifically extend services to 32 additional users, providing them with a dependable and safe water source. Among these users, 15 currently lack any water source and transport their water manually. The project’s completion is expected to bring the service area up to current standards, thereby improving service quality for customers.

“Specifically, this grant will expand services to 32 additional users to provide them a safe and reliable source of water,” stated USDA officials. “Of these users, 15 of them have no water source and haul their water.”
