Valley City State University Student Senate announced on May 1 that Erin Edinger and Lindsey Kiecker have been named the recipients of its annual Student Advocate and Teacher of the Year awards.

The awards are given each year to recognize individuals who make a significant impact on student life at Valley City State University. Students nominate candidates, and the final selections are made by the Student Senate.

Erin Edinger, Director for Residence Life, was selected as the 2025-26 Student Advocate of the Year. Students said she is supportive and empowers them throughout campus. They highlighted her ability to create a welcoming environment where students feel safe, respected, challenged, and encouraged to share ideas. The Student Senate said it is grateful for her hard work and dedication to both campus life and students.

Lindsey Kiecker, assistant professor in the Department of Science, was named Teacher of the Year for 2025-26. According to students, Kiecker is an “amazing and dedicated professor” who goes above and beyond inside and outside the classroom. Students noted her efforts to get to know them personally, her willingness to spend extra time preparing them for success, and her readiness to explain concepts in greater depth when needed. The Student Senate expressed appreciation for her commitment to students at VCSU.

The recognition reflects ongoing efforts by faculty and staff at Valley City State University to support student achievement through mentorship both in academics and daily campus life.
