North Dakota Human Rights Coalition issued the following announcement.
As we gather to celebrate PRIDE, the 52nd anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, and the heroic actions of trans women of color who led the rebellion, we cannot leave behind the over 500+ years of Two Spirit resistance on indigenous land.
Fifty years of modern LGBTQ liberation, while essential, is a drop in the bucket compared to thousands of years of queer indigeneity on Turtle Island. It’s crucial that the lives of Two Spirit people, both past and present, are recognized and honored.
Every day that oppressed people draw breath is an act of revolution and joy! We honor and celebrate our Two Spirit friends, neighbors, and relatives! May we all continue to come together and do our part to create more LGBTQI+Two-Spirit & Indigiqueer Safe Spaces.
